I bought a set of the figured Myrtlewood from Doug after he auctioned the beautiful set here. Just wanted to say that the set I received is beautiful and I look forward to building with it. Highly recommend him to all. Tom Harbin |

I have exchanged a number of emails with Doug, and he's a fantastic guy. I have never found myrtle to be very interesting, nor did I have a desire to work with it, until now. These sets really caught my eye. Lots of color. If I could, I'd buy a LOTS of this wood and use it like so many use brazilian. It's got a lot of interest and character! Thanks Doug, for YOUR character, and I hope that all you put your hands to prospers. Looking forward to doing business with you, and to see what you offer in the future |

Terry, If you havent tried Myrtle you should. Many dismiss Myrtle because its color is lighter than most prefer for instruments and as color goes it is not what makes Myrtle dramatic, it is the figure and the way that the grain reflects light (chatoyance). The coloring can be subtle but it is a really nice wood. Besides the beauty of the wood what I like about it is that it is easy to work with...it bends as easy as mahogany, is similar in weight to mahogany or walnut, and while it does have open pores (not quite as open as walnut) it does polish nicely when finely sanded. I have only used it for flamenco guitars but I think it would probably make a great choice for a fingerstyle guitar. Because the color of the wood is lighter it does look great with a darker contrasting binding. The more I work with Myrtle, the more I like it and Doug's stash looks terrific. |

Shawn and Terry I appreciate the kind words and Shawn you are right about it being easy to work with. It cuts like butter and looks great just out of the saw. But the main thing is the tap tone. It just rings. That and the fact that I don't think there is that much of what I provide on the market. I wish I had the time to build with it. I can not wait to see a finish on this Myrtle and hear about how amazed they are with the sound of the wood. I believe this is the start of something good. Terry, I can't thank you enough for your support. Always remember, ![]() ![]() |
